During the yearly Think NXT event, Canal Z interviews Frédéric Braham, Head of IoT & Business Communications at Proximus NXT, on the role of AI and 5G in the development of smart cities.

Frédéric discusses the concept of smart cities. A smart city uses technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and the living environment. This includes smart mobility, waste management, energy optimization, and safety.
Proximus NXT has carried out projects in cities like Flobecq, Durbuy, and Charleroi. Examples include improving pedestrian crossing safety with sensors and cameras to adapt the intensity of lighting, and measuring air quality and noise in real-time. Measures are taken when air quality is poor or noise is disturbing.
Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in these projects, such as smart cameras that detect suspicious behaviour or applications to optimize energy management in buildings. 5G networks are essential for connecting many objects and exchanging information in real-time, which was not possible with previous generations of networks. 5G also enables large-scale software updates for sensors.
