How do I get fiber?

  1. As fiber cables are laid neighbourhood by neighbourhood and street by street, you now need to check whether fiber is already available for your address. If such is the case, you will be invited to take advantage of the fiber technology.

If fiber is not yet available for you, do not hesitate to fill in our form in order to be informed as soon as it is available.

Questions that you may still have

Fiber is the technology of the future. The fiber cables transmit data over long distances at the speed of light and thus offer many advantages, including an ultra-fast and much more stable Internet connection than with traditional copper cables.

The network is modernised by gradually replacing the copper cables by fiber cables. And unlike most other operators who stop at the street, we are installing fiber right into your business, to ensure the best possible performance now and in the future. In the long term, the copper network will be completely replaced by this new technology.

Thanks to fiber, you have a super-fast and stable internet connection, ultra-low latency, a sharper image than ever on all your screens and, above all: you’re ready for the future:

  • Ultra-fast Internet: surf and share your files with colleagues and customers faster than ever before. With fiber, never again is your patience put to the test.
  • Stable and reliable Internet: upload and download large files without interruption even if all your colleagues are connected at the same time.
  • A sharper image than ever on all your screens: whether it's on your TV, tablet or smartphone, with fiber, no detail will escape you.
  • Ready for the future: in the future, more and more devices in your business will be connected to the Internet. With fiber, you will easily cope with this evolution.

Mbps is a measure of the amount of data transferred in one second, and is used worldwide to quantify Internet speeds. Mbps stands for megabit per second. Gbps stands for gigabit (or GIGA) per second. A gigabit (or 1 GIGA) is 1,000 megabits - that’s very fast!

When a speed is indicated, it’s almost always the download speed. If 1 GIGA is specified for a Fiber Internet product, this means that the connection can download up to 1 gigabit of data per second. An example: with a connection of 1 gigabyte per second, you can download a video file with a volume of 1.5 gigabit in just 12 seconds, while you would need almost 3 minutes at a traditional speed (70 Mbps).

Fiber not only offers you the fastest and most stable Internet connection on the market, it is also the most environmentally friendly solution. Sending data via fiber generates very little energy. And up to 12 times less than with your current copper cable! So switching to fiber is an optimal decision for the environment and the climate. By phasing out the current copper cables, we are currently recycling 500 tons of copper per year and giving it a second life.

Fiber consists of glass made from silicon dioxide. Silicon disoxide is the second most abundant element on earth, after oxygen. It is found in sand, clay, rocks and even water. Its exploitation does not harm the environment

Compared to copper, the production of fiber does not have a large ecological footprint. According to the industry, the exploitation and production of 2 kg of copper wire (which is used for your current connection) results in the emission of 1,000 kg of CO2, while the emission if fibre is only 0.06 kg.

The alarm system:
It depends on how it is connected:

  • Is it connected via Wi-Fi? This will not be a problem, but the installer of your alarm will need to reconfigure the terminal.
  • Is it connected on your Internet line, on a mobile network, or on a separate analog line (of your pack) and dedicated to your alarm? In that case, you won't have to do anything.
  • Is it connected on the same line as the one you make calls on (the line of your pack)? In that case we recommend that you opt for a backup battery (for your modem, so the modem will continue to function in case of a power outage). Test the alarm line afterwards.

In addition, if your alarm system is connected to a monitoring station, we advise you to ask your alarm installer to check to make sure the installation works properly

The payment terminal:
Recent payment terminals (Wi-Fi, IP, mobiles) will work on fiber connectivity (after being reconfigured). Only old PSTN terminals need to be examined more closely.

The telephone exchange:
This depends on the current technology of your telephone exchange. In case of:

  • An IP-certified telephone exchange: it will work seamlessly on both copper and fiber IP connectivity. You don't have to do anything.
  • A non-IP-certified telephone exchange (e.g. ISDN): you will have the choice between:
    • keeping your non-IP exchange and getting a box to convert the IP signal into an ISDN signal "Bizz IP Box ISDN" (€6.5/month).
    • migrating your exchange to a new Proximus IP exchange (with a "Bizz IP Box Other Party" box (€6.5/month) if your exchange is not a Proximus exchange).

Fixed internet speed: the actual speed experienced depends on the computer system, but also in exceptional cases, on general use. Your surfing speed may also be slower, while using Wi-Fi. Check the speed of your Internet connection in your home.

Fibre download speeds can only be achieved with a fixed device directly connected to the modem.

10 Gbps fiber

10 Gbps fibre technology will revolutionise the fixed network, giving you internet speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps download and 1,5 Gbps upload.

Conditions

To benefit from 10 Gbps technology, your current hardware must be replaced. An installation appointment will need to be scheduled. A technician will come to your home on the scheduled date to set up your Internet Box+ and your new ONT box, which is used to connect your box to the fiber network. Any Wi-Fi Boosters you might have will also have to be replaced by Wi-Fi Boosters+.

If you terminate your Ultra Fiber option, you will be asked to return your Internet Box+ and any Wi-Fi Boosters+. You will receive a cancellation confirmation and the option will be charged to you on a pro-rata basis. You will be downgraded back to your basic Internet subscription (with a speed of 1 Gbps/200 Mbps) and the right hardware, a new Internet Box (and if applicable, one or more Wi-Fi Boosters) will also be delivered to you by post.

Where is fiber available?

Fiber is available in several major Belgian cities and is being rolled out in others. It is also being deployed on industrial estates and in industrial buildings, as well as most new housing estates and apartment buildings.

Thanks to our partnerships with Fiberklaar in Flanders and Unifiber in Wallonia, the roll-out of fiber will pick up speed in the coming months and years, in order to offer you the best network available. The aim is to provide an ultra-fast and stable network that can easily absorb the data traffic that will continue to grow in the years to come.
